Former President Donald Trump directed another personal attack at former Republican congresswoman Liz Cheney on Thursday night, describing a scenario in which she would face multiple rifles firing in her direction.
The remarks came during an interview with conservative commentator Tucker Carlson in Glendale, Arizona, just five days before the presidential election.
Trump criticized Cheney's support for American military intervention overseas, suggesting her views might change if she personally experienced the dangers of combat.
Trump Describes Cheney Facing Gunfire
During the interview, Carlson asked Trump about Cheney's decision to campaign against him and support Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris.
Trump called Cheney a “radical war hawk” before describing her standing with a rifle while nine other guns fired toward her.
He suggested that politicians who advocate military intervention should experience the dangers faced by American troops rather than making decisions from Washington.
The remarks were delivered as part of a broader criticism of Cheney's foreign policy positions, particularly regarding American involvement in Iraq and Syria.
Trump did not explicitly call for Cheney's execution. His comments described a hypothetical combat situation intended to challenge her support for military intervention, although his language invoked the image of a political opponent facing gunfire.
Cheney Has Become a Prominent Trump Opponent
Cheney, the daughter of former Vice President Dick Cheney, served as vice chair of the House committee investigating the January 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol.
Once a member of House Republican leadership, she became one of Trump's most outspoken Republican critics after refusing to support his efforts to overturn the 2020 presidential election.
She subsequently lost her 2022 Republican primary in Wyoming.
Cheney has endorsed Harris and joined her at campaign events, arguing that Trump's conduct following the 2020 election makes his return to the presidency unacceptable.
Her father has also announced his support for Harris.
Personal Attacks Dominate Campaign's Final Days
Trump's comments illustrate the increasingly personal nature of his attacks against Republicans who have broken with him.
Rather than limiting his criticism to Cheney's foreign policy record, Trump repeatedly insulted her intelligence and character during the interview.
The exchange also highlighted a disagreement over America's military role abroad, with Trump portraying Cheney as an advocate of costly foreign wars.
With Election Day approaching, Cheney's support for Harris has become another point of contention in a presidential campaign already marked by disputes over January 6, political loyalty, and the future direction of the Republican Party.
