$130,000 payment to Stormy Daniels before election
In the closing weeks of the 2016 presidential election, Trump attorney Michael Cohen wired $130,000 to the lawyer representing Stormy Daniels as part of a nondisclosure arrangement. Daniels alleged a 2006 sexual encounter; Trump denied it. Prosecutors later argued the payment was intended to keep potentially damaging information from voters. Cohen pleaded guilty to federal campaign-finance offenses in 2018, and New York prosecutors subsequently pursued charges involving the recording of reimbursements to him.
